Membership Levels & FeesThere are several different MEMBERSHIP TYPES in the THS. Please read carefully to determine your membership type before processing your membership application. Membership in the THS shall be: (a) Active Membership: Active Members shall be surgeons of high personal and professional qualifications who have been actively engaged in the practice of hand surgery in the State of Texas. They shall be citizens of the United States unless a waiver is granted by the Executive Council. Board eligibility or certification shall be a prerequisite for Active Membership. Active members who cease to reside and practice in Texas will no longer retain Active Membership status but may request in writing to the Chairman of the Membership Committee or the Society President a request to become Associate Members. This category change requires a recommendation of the Membership Committee and approval of the Executive Council. Active Members shall have the right to vote at all meetings of the THS and be eligible to hold office. (b) Associate Membership: Associate Membership shall consist of the following categories: 1. Former THS Active Members who have moved out of state and elect to retain their Membership in the Society. Associate Members are members of the hand surgery team of THS Active Members, including, but not limited to, physician assistants, nurses, medical assistants, aestheticians, injectors, first assists, office managers and patient coordinators who desire to participate in some of the educational and social aspects of the THS. Membership in this category requires active, full-time employment in the medical practice of an Active Member of THS. Associate Members shall agree to comply with the Society’s Bylaws, Code of Ethics and Policies and shall enjoy all of the privileges of Membership including serving on committees but may not hold office nor vote. Associate Members shall pay registration fees and assessments for those meetings that they attend. (d) Resident/Fellow Membership: Applicants for Resident/Fellow Membership must be full-time Residents enrolled in a program in the State of Texas or a Fellow in a post-residency program acceptable to the Executive Council. Upon completion or termination of the Residency/Fellowship, the resident/fellow may then apply for Associate Membership in the THS. Resident/Fellow Members do not pay dues, vote, nor hold office. They do not attend the Business Meeting. They are encouraged to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting and present papers. (e) Medical Student Membership: Applicants for Medical Student Membership must be full-time Medical Students enrolled in a medical school in the State of Texas. Upon completion or termination of Medical Schools, the resident/fellow may then apply for Resident/Fellow Membership in the THS. Medical Student Members do not pay dues, vote, nor hold office. They do not attend the Business Meeting. They are encouraged to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting and present papers. (f.) Non-Clinical Membership: Applicants for Non-Clinical Membership do not pay dues, vote, hold office, nor attend the Business Meeting.
